JSJ splitting of a group plays an important role in investigating the geometry of free groups, and as it turns out, also in investigating the model theory of such groups. In this lecture I will give a brief overview of JSJ theory, state a few useful results that stem from it, and demonstrate these techniques using results from my master’s thesis.
